[ Story ]

Film adaptation of a best-selling novel, DIVE!, by a Naoki prize winning novelist, Mori Eto, featuring a young spring board diver. Mori herself cooperated in writing the script. Kumazawa Naoto, who won the Best Direction at Porto International Film Festival for Tokyo Noir, strongly expresses the feelings of the youths in the movie.
The diving club, where Sakai Tomoki (Hayashi Kento) attends, brings in a new coach, Asaki Kayoko (Seto Asaka) who has been trained in the U.S., in an attempt to save the club from closure. The training at the club is stepped up in the hope of producing an Olympian, and Tomoki competes for a place with two other members; Fujitani Yoichi (Ikematsu Sosuke), whose father is a former Olympic diver, and Okitsu Shibuki (Mizobata Junpei), who dives from a cliff top into the sea and whose grandfather was a diving genius. Having to practice all hours, Tomoki even loses his girlfriend to his younger brother, but with encouragement from the coach, he returns to the poolside. While searching for their own style of diving, the three contenders press on with their gruelling training regime in the pool as well as on the track. The selection for the Olympics is announced and there is only one place left. At the national Olympic qualifying event, the three dominate the top ranks, and Tomoki gives a satisfying performance.
