[ Story ]

The first half of a two-part adaptation of Oku Hiroya's sci-fi action manga. Two young men who should be dead are summoned by a mysterious sphere called "Gantz" that forces them to battle bizarre enemies called "aliens". Its stylish images fuse live-action footage featuring explosions and physical stunts with top quality visual effects, bringing the manga's brutal atmosphere to the screen. Kurono (Ninomiya Kazunari), a university student trying to find a job, and his childhood friend Kato (Matsuyama Kenichi), attempt to save a man who has fallen onto subway tracks, but are hit by an oncoming train and killed instantly. However, they awake to find that they have been transported to an apartment.
