[ Story ]

The Maedas live in an apartment house in suburban Tokyo. One autumn afternoon, Katori, president of Highlight Artists Agency, Tokie, an accountant of the Company and Pinosaku, a jazz singer, burst into their apartment charging that Minoru, the son, has cheated Pinosaku out of his performance fee. Minoru and his parents beg for leniency. However, as soon as the visitors leave the apartment, the family burst out laughing at them.
Tomoko is kept by novelist Yoshizawa and the family live on the money Minoru embezzled and Tomoko receives from her patron. Later Tokie asks Minoru who has been supporting her, for her freedom. She has built a hotel with the money obtained from him and other men.
Tokie has also asked Kamiya, a tax office employee, to leave her.
Tokie bids Minoru fairwell and leaves the apartment. Kamiya comes to look for Tokie but Minoru sends him away.
As Minoru and Tokie dance to a record, a shadow of a man falls from the roof of the apartment house and crashes to the ground.
