[ Story ]

Sakiko (Matsushima Nanako), who works at a travel agent in Tokyo, learns that her mother, Tatsuko (Miyamoto Nobuko), who lives alone in their hometown of Tokushima, has been admitted to hospital. Sakiko feels some loneliness and ill-feeling towards her mother, as she has not told Sakiko anything about her father and Sakiko has not known her father since birth, and the mother takes all decisions by herself. Upon returning to her hometown, Sakiko is stunned to learn from the doctor that Tatsuko is diagnosed as having a terminal cancer. While nursing her mother, Sakiko meets Terasawa (Osawa Takao), a doctor, and the fall in love. Being encouraged by Terasawa, Sakiko tries to understand her mother. As she unfolds her mother's life, she learns that she is deeply loved by her mother, she learns about mother's secret love story, and that her father is still alive. Sakiko finds out that her father and mother could not keep their promise to go and watch Awaodori (traditional Japanese folk dance from the Tokushima region), so Sakiko goes to see him and arrange for the two to be reunited on the day of Awaodori.
Director Inudo Isshin of JOSEE, THE TIGER AND THE FISH(Josee to Tora to Sakanatachi) and Maison de Himiko portrays the bond between mother and daughter. Based on a novel of the same title by Sada Masashi, a singer song writer.
