[ Story ]

Sonoko, married and childless, decides to take drawing lessons. One day as her class is drawing a model, her instructor remarks that the face resembles Mitsuko, a beautiful girl they all know, in one of the other classes.
Her drawing causes rumours that she and Mitsuko are in love with each other. Her husband looks on the friendship indulgently for a while, but this soon turns to anxiety.
The more Sonoko sees of Mitsuko, the more enraptured she becomes, while Mitsuko seems to drink in the adoration lavished on her. Completely under her spell, Sonoko becomes her willing captive only to learn that Mitsuko uses the same charm on men and women alike.
When Sonoko hears of Watanuki's affection for Mitsuko, she is shocked at this strange and sudden love triangle, but when he baldly offers to become her brother and share Mitsuko, she decides to break off with the younger girl and become a better wife to her husband.
To shake off Watanuki, they pretend to commit suicide, take sleeping pills and lie down together. As Sonoko slowly drifts back to consciousness she finds Mitsuko with her husband.
The new triangle is worse. It is Mitsuko who suggests their dying together. They lie down with Mitsuko between them. The next morning, only Sonoko is alive and must live with the thought that Mitsuko had perhaps purposely planned it that way.
