[ Story ]

The first dramatic feature a.k.a. Pachamama by New York-based documentary producer Matsushita Toshifumi, filmed in Bolivia over the course of six years. The film depicts the unaffected lives of indigenous people against the grand expanse of nature at the Salar de Uyuni salt flats. The film has shown at many film festivals, including the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival, where it won the new director and best cinematography awards. Andean folk music, including songs by the leading Bolivian singer Luzmila Carpio, is one major source of the film's appeal.
The salt flats of the Salar de Uyuni stretch to the horizon. Kunturi (Christian Huaygua), a young boy of the indigenous Quecha people, spends his days here, physically poor but rich in spirit. Facing the deaths of family members and friends, and learning the lessons of "Pachamama" (Mother Earth) in his daily life, he gradually grows into a young man. Then his father, Sauci (Francisco Gutierrez), decides to take him on his first salt caravan.
