Animation adaptation of the classic work by Miyazawa Kenji, children's book author with enduring nation-wide popularity. Portrays a youth with a keen sense of honor as he deals with cold-weather damage. Original story by Miyazawa, directed by Sugii Gisaburo, with character concepts by Masumura Hiroshi, the same team behind the 1985 hit Night on the Galactic Railroad.
Budori (voice: Oguri Shun) lived in the Ihatov woods, but is left alone after his family perishes due to cold-weather damage. He works himself to the bone in factories and fields, and finally becomes a distinguished engineer at the Volcanic Department.
