Drama about the life of the mother of Hayashi Takiji, known for the proletarian novel {The Crab Cannery Ship}. Directed by Yamada Hisako of Bokyo no kane Manmo kaitakudan no rakujitsu.
Seki (Terajima Shinobu) was born into an impoverished family in Shakanai Village in Akita Prefecture and was married off to the Kobayashi family at age fifteen. Seki couldn't write, but she was a kind mother. Her second son Takiji (Shioya Shun) gets a job at a bank, but gradually becomes involved in the labor movement. His novel about the plight of laborers leads to his being pegged as a dangerous element, and he dies at the age of twenty-nine due to torture by the Special Higher Police.
