[ Story ]
This documentary was the winner of a Bunka-cho Film Award in 2010. In the mountains of Kotsunagi in the northern region of Iwate prefecture, a long legal battle was fought over the right of commons (the right to enter the mountains to collect firewood and wild vegetables). The film covers the Kotsunagi Case, which spanned from 1917 through 1966, and the changes the region has gone through to this current day in the 21st century. It took seven years to edit, and 50 years to finally finish the endless collection of never-before-seen footage left by three journalists who set foot in the area in 1960. Documenting the village people and their coexistence with the mountains, the film poses the question "who really owns nature?"
