[ Story ]
Documentary looking back on the social history of Japanese-Americans living in Hawaii, focusing on testimony from 34 second-generation Japanese-American veterans and their spouses. Directorial debut for producer Matsumoto Hiroyuki. Won the Best of Hawaii Award at the Honolulu Film Awards in 2012.
Hawaii was the starting point for Japanese immigration, and also for the Japanese-American army unit. The film offers an "alternative history of Japan" that comprehensively records the memories of second-generation Japanese Americans, including Japanese-American society of yore as recounted by veterans and their wives, the realities of World War II, and their lives after the war.
