[ Story ]
Local volunteers shot this powerful ensemble film about the 14-year story behind the construction of Shin-Hanamaki Station for the Tohoku Shinkansen.
Japan National Railways announced the master plan for the Tohoku Shinkansen in 1971, when the nation's attention was focused on the bullet train. Hanamaki City in Iwate Prefecture was considered to be a strong contender for inclusion on the train line, but not only did the city fail to get a station, the train tracks missed the city center entirely. Just when everyone had given up, a few locals formed a volunteer organization and launched a campaign to get the train station built.
