[ Story ]

Documentary featuring testimonies by people applying for refugee status at the East Japan Immigration Center known as "Ushiku". Director Thomas Ash shot the film with hidden cameras, a controversial technique. Winner of the Asian Perspective Award in the Asian Competition at the DMZ International Documentary Film Festival in 2021.
Shot in Ushiku with consent from the participants, the footage captures claims about shocking conditions from nine people. Their experiences with long-term detention and inhumane treatment erode their hope and trust in Japan as a country.
