[ Story ]

The story of an ordinary housewife which drew attention for the inclusion of an actual birth scene. The lonely agony of the heroine, who succumbs to envy over the happiness of a workmate, is sculpted with layers of psychological realism. Ichii Masahide, who wrote, directed, and edited the film, has an unusual background as a former member of a popular stand-up comedy group. Ichii decided to make the film when his wife, actress Konno Sanae, became pregnant. The film won the grand prize and several other awards at the 30th Pia Film Festival, as well as the New Currents Award at the 13th Pusan International Film Festival.
Ritsuko (Moriya Ayako), a woman in her 30s who works at a plastics factory in the countryside, doesn't mix much with her workmates and leads a lonely existence at home in a frigid relationship with her husband. One day, a very pregnant Chinatsu (Konno) arrives at the factory as a temporary worker. Ritsuko befriends Chinatsu, but witnessing a happiness that is the polar opposite of the distress over her estranged marriage sends Ritsuko into the depths of gloom.
