Through the story of a homosexual born in 1929, this documentary unravels the history of homosexuality in Japan, a condition that was once openly discussed as a "treatable mental illness."
94-year-old Hase Tadashi, who lives in Nishinari Ward, Osaka, has lived in solitude for a long time, never having told anyone that he is gay, and finding poetry as his only source of support. Focusing on Hase's life, the film traces the history of homosexuals including an interview with Ito Bungaku, former editor-in-chief of Japan's first gay magazine, Barazoku.
