[ Story ]
Nadya's Village director and still photographer, Motohashi Seiichi, returns from a post-Chernobyl land with another documentary about people of a small village and a natural water source.
Also called "White Russia", Belarus, is a country gifted with lush virgin forests and fertile, productive terrain. The small village of Budische lies in the southeast of this country, which was contaminated by radioactive fallout after the world's worst meltdown at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. After authorities urged residents to resettle elsewhere, the village of 600 residents was deserted, save for 55 elderly people and one young man named Alexei. Strangely enough, the natural spring water rising from a well in the center of the village shows no trace of radioactivity. Alexei drives the tractor and takes on the heavy labor for the elderly folk. He chops trees, splits firewood, and digs up potatoes. At the harvest festival, the villagers feast, drink vodka, sing and dance in the village square. Some are dead drunk. Their daily life passes peacefully, even after the nuclear disaster, anchored by the spring and beautiful natural surroundings.
