[ Story ]
Panic disaster entertainment film Pandemic seemed to foresee the real-life world epidemic of the new flu virus. The story, based on a simulation of factual events, depicts the breakout of a highly contagious unknown virus that sets off immediate panic and freezes all urban operations. Written and directed by Zeze Takahisa (Flying Rabbits ), the film deals with modern medical issues such as misdiagnosis, in-hospital infection, and smear tactics to tarnish reputations. Matsuoka (Tsumabuki Satoshi) is an emergency-room physician working at the Municipal General Hospital. One day, he admits a patient suffering from high fever, convulsions, and hematemesis—similar symptoms to the flu. Yet the ordinary vaccine does nothing and the patient dies. Eventually the medical staff and other patients become infected and the hospital falls into chaos. In order to contain the situation and determine the causes, a medical officer from the WHO and Matsuoka's former girlfriend Eiko (Dan Rei) is dispatched to the hospital. Surveying the case, she predicts the number of infected in Japan will increase to tens of millions within the next six months.
