A dark fantasy that blends the worlds of Akutagawa Ryunosuke's representative work "The Spider's Thread" and his short stories "God of Aguni" and "Tobacco and the Devil". Renowned actor Hira Mikijiro makes his first starring appearance in a film for 34 years, and is supported by a cast that includes several unique performers from the theater and elsewhere. After committing evil deeds in the world of the living, Kandata (Hira) has fallen into the underworld. There he finds himself at the mercy of various people, and the reasons for his sins become apparent. Eventually, when all is revealed, the thread of a spider that he helped when he was alive descends from above.
