The life of Takaoka Masaaki, an overlooked prominent figure who dedicated his life to the development of a new variety of sakura (cherry blossom), is depicted in this drama directed by Takahashi Gen, the author of the book on which the story is based.
Takaoka (Sasano Takashi), a teacher at a vocational school during the war, continues to feel remorse for sending them off to fight. He dedicates his life to developing a new variety of sakura as a prayer for world peace and the repose of the souls of students killed in combat.
