Born of a black father and a Japanese mother, Sakura was adopted by a black family who took her to America but had no real affection for child. Finally, unable to stand life with her foster parents any longer, she runs away to make the long journey back to Japan alone.
However, in Japan there's none awaiting Sakura except Yuri who had befriended her when they were both in America. And it is Yuri, who decides she must arrange for Sakura to meet her real mother, if only for a moment.
On seeing Kyoko, Sakura knows instinctively that she is her mother. But Kyoko pushes her aside runs into her house, slams the door behind her, and calls the police to ask them to remove the child.
A few days later, a ship pulls out of Yokohama. A forlorn passenger is Sakura, who weeps silently, not knowing that Kyoko has cried out frantically: "Sakura! Please forgive me!"
