Because of her drunken father, 15 year old Wakae leaves school and is working in a cheap bar. When she steals a pair of shoes, a young hoodlum who knows of the theft, demands three thousand yen and she breaks into a high school, is discovered, and flees empty-handed.
Saburo, sympathizes with her, and even though he is still looking for a job, buys her decent clothing.
Saburo's brother, Taro, is running for office in a local election, and to avoid any possible scandal developing from Saburo and Wakae's relationship he forces Saburo to go to a distant relative to work on the poultry farm. Wakae follows him, but after she accidently burns down a chicken house, they are both forced to leave. Finally, Wakae is sent to a reformatory, but she and Saburo agree to meet in three years, and to continue their life together.
