This unique drama rendered in monochrome imagery with spoken words pared down to the bare minimum comes from Foolish Piggies Films, the film production team started by the brilliant Watanabe brothers, Hirobumi and Yuji. The film won the Best Director award in the Japanese Cinema Splash section at the 32nd Tokyo International Film Festival.
In the rural outskirts of northern Kanto a man (Watanabe Hirobumi) works at a piggery while living with his elderly grandmother. His days are spent silently working at the piggery where pig squeals echo throughout, while at home he is reading books or watching films.
