On December 30th, a telephone call comes in to a local cultural center. The manager of the center, Iizuka (Kobayashi Kaoru) takes the call. Hearing his response, Kato (Ito Atsushi), his staff member, freezes as he realizes that the center is double booked by mistake for the New Year's eve for two events by two choir groups which have confusingly similar names. Iizuka summons those in charge for both choirs to sort it out, but neither backs down. An option to change the time is also declined. Iizuka is stuck both publicly and privately as he has been dumped by his wife for womanizing and also been blackmailed, but when a joint concert is suggested by Igarashi (Yasuda Narumi), the leader of one of the groups, Iizuka exerts himself to make it happen. The following day, having overcome a number of difficulties, the chorus of "Ode to Joy" echoes in the concert hall at the center.
