[ Story ]

Director Riju Go returns to the screen after a six-year absence with this adaptation of Boris Vian's 'The Foam of the Days'.
Planetarium employee Kotaro (Nagase Masatoshi) has a meeting with fate and falls in love with Chloe (Tomosaka Rie). Supported by Kotaro's friend Eisuke (Tsukamoto Shinya) and his girlfriend Hidemi (Matsuda Miyuki), the two have a modest wedding, and start their married life. Then Chloe falls ill from a mysterious illness involving a water lily growing in her lung. Kotaro realizes that the water lily needs to be surrounded by other flowers to grow, and takes on harsher and harsher jobs to buy flowers for Chloe. As the days Kotaro has left with Chloe draw shorter and shorter, Eisuke squanders all his money on a popular picture book author, and disappears. Hidemi visits the author to get Eisuke back, and ends up stabbing him to death. Kotaro learns of this, and hurries home to spend the time he has left with Chloe. As the water lily slowly blooms, their loved ones descend into unhappiness, and Chloe leaves this world behind.
