[ Story ]
A 4-hour entertainment epic by director Sono Sion, who has established a distinctive position in the Japanese film world. It won the Caligari Film Award and the FIPRESCI Prize in the Forum section of the 59th Berlin International Film Festival.
Yu (Nishijima Takahiro) is living a tranquil life with his father Tetsu (Watabe Atsuro), a Catholic priest. His father becomes infatuated with a woman named Saori (Watanabe Makiko), but when she leaves him, he suffers a shock that leaves him a changed man. He forces Yu to confess his sins daily, but lacking sins to confess, Yu begins taking up-skirt photos of girls' panties. Saori eventually moves back, bringing along her daughter Yoko (Mitsushima Hikari), who Yu had encountered previously when he was dressed in drag. While Yu struggles over this complex relationship with Yoko, Koike (Ando Sakura), the leader of a religious cult, brainwashes and converts the entire family. The up-skirt photos are exposed and Yu runs away from home. Yu stubbornly believes in his love for Yoko, but will he manage to rescue her?
