[ Story ]
A feature animation film depicting the true story of the life of Hatta Yoichi, a Japanese engineer who lived in Taiwan during the Japanese occupation. The theme song is written and sung by Hitoto Yo, a popular singer who is part Taiwanese. "Batian lai" is Taiwanese for "Hatta has come." Hatta (voice: Inoue Kazuhiko), a civil engineer, plans to construct a dam in a barren part of southwestern Taiwan. The local residents who initially opposed the plan are touched by Hatta's passion and open up to him, but an explosion occurs during the tunnel construction. Hatta grieves over the many lives lost in this accident.
