An animation film version of the enormously popular Nintendo DS game series, which has sold a cumulative eight million copies in Japan and internationally. English gentleman Layton?who is not only a professor of archeology but also a researcher of the mysterious?and his young apprentice Luke aim to solve the mystery of an opera that gives it audience immortality. As in the game version, the characters are voiced by Oizumi Yo and Horikita Maki. Professor Layton and Luke are attending a performance of the opera, the Eternal Life. There, they meet mysterious scientist Jean Descole, and the puzzle begins to reveal itself.
