[ Story ]
An interpersonal drama shot on location in Japan and the United States, and produced as a sequel to the biographical film Sakura, Sakura: Samurai Kagakusha Takamine Jokichi no Shogai, also directed by Ichikawa Toru. Takamine Jokichi (Hasegawa Hatsunori) achieved success as a scientist and businessman after emigrating to the U.S. from Japan in the Meiji era. Hoping to foster friendly relations between the two countries, he came up with a plan to plant Japanese cherry trees in New York, but many obstacles stood in his way. The rows of cherry trees at West Potomac Park in Washington, D.C. that are seen in the film will reach their 100th anniversary in 2002.
