Fantasy that takes place in Echizen City, Fukui Prefecture, known as the origin of traditional Japanese paper making. Men who as children found the time tunnel known as "heso," or bellybutton, scramble to protect its secrets. Warmly depicts male friendship while linking the present day with the 70s and the Edo period of feudal Japan. Four friends and 10-year-old Satoshi are in the mountains when they discover a strange hole. They get lost in last days of the Edo period, and are saved by Takejii (Wakabayshi Go), the guardian of heso. Forty years later, paper craftsman Satoshi (Nagashima Toshiyuki) has taken over as the "heso mori" who guards the heso.
