[ Story ]
Documentary about people living in the snowbelt region of Niigata Prefecture near the Nagano Prefecture border. Director Kobayashi Shigeru and his crew spent five years to shoot and finish the film. Official selection for the 2015 Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival.
Mr. and Mrs. Kogure relocate from the city to Echigo Tsumari and settle in a "satoyama," a place in the mountains where people live in harmony with nature. They renovate an old farmhouse with a thatch roof and figure out how to harvest rice by following the example of the people around them. Then, one spring morning a huge earthquake hits. Their home is completely destroyed, but they immediately decide to rebuild.
