Documentary about the so-called Death Railway built by the Imperial Japanese Army during the Pacific War. In-depth coverage of Nagase Takashi, who was stationed in Thailand as an army interpreter and spent his life atoning for the many lives taken during the railway's construction. Director Mitsuda Yasuhiro followed Nagase's final years.
In July 1942, the Imperial Japanese Army begins constructing a railroad connecting Thailand and Burma. The huge construction project was completed in 15 months with the mobilization of 60,000 prisoners of war and 250,000 locals, and numerous people perished due to hard labor and contagious diseases.
