The Rainbow Over The River Kwai director Mitsuda Yasuhiro uncovers the truth about the group of Japanese war prisoners who tried to escape from a POW camp in Australia.
During World War II the Cowra 12th Prisoner of War Camp granted the POWs a certain degree of self-governance and maintained a semblance of democratic order. However, when orders came down to move some of the prisoners, a group of hardliners insisted they grab the opportunity to stage a revolt. They ask all of the prisoners to vote on whether or not to attempt a desperate escape.
