[ Story ]
A documentary by Haneda Sumiko of Getting Old without Anxiety (Anshin Shite Oiru Tameni) andThe Takanosu-machi Thereafter (Ano Takanosu-machi no Sonogo), who has been tackling issues of welfare and aging. The film follows people in search of ideal terminal care for death with dignity.
It is reported that a mere 13% die at home in present day Japan, and the majority die at the hospital while undergoing life-prolonging treatment. Realizing that the principle and a system for home-based terminal care is not established, Haneda reports on cases including the "Life Care System" that provides home medical care through a membership system, "Sun Village Shinsei-en" that aims to provide advanced care, and "A.S.M.ss" that aims for comprehensive terminal care encompassing a clinic, group homes, visiting nurses and an office to support home care. The healthcare and welfare system in Ballarat, Australia, and the cutting-edge home healthcare team in the advanced welfare state of Sweden, are also covered, and their first-rate systems are analyzed.
