[ Story ]

Live-action version of Kono Fumiyo's manga comic human drama. Winner of the Grand Prize in the Manga Division at the Japan Media Arts Festival in 2004, and the Shinsei(New Hope) Award at Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize 2005. The original work has been translated in the U.S., Canada and Australia. The tragedy that the atomic bomb carries beyond generations is portrayed from the viewpoint of two women via two stories, one from the past and the other from the present day. Starring Tanaka Lena and Aso Kumiko. Directed by Sasabe Kiyoshi of Sea without Exit (Deguchi no Nai Umi).
"Yunagi City" in Hiroshima, 13 years after the atomic bombing. Hirano Minami (Aso Kumiko) feels happiness when her colleague, Uchikoshi expresses his love for her. However, the atomic bomb sickness is detected shortly afterwards and the pain of that emotional scar also returns. "Sakura Country" is in present day Tokyo. Nanami (Tanaka Lena) follows her father who travels to Hiroshima without telling the family. Through her father's conduct, Nanami realizes what the family has been carrying as well as her aunt Minami's haunting experience of radiation exposure. This prompts Nanami to reflect on her roots and the value of peace.
