In 1973, Mushi Productions and Nihon Herald Eiga (the former name of Kadokawa Pictures) produced an animated movie aimed at adults about the witch trials in France during the Middle-Ages. Art director and illustrator, Fukai Kuni's delicately erotic depictions and the various experimental techniques won high accolades. Now, after over 40 years, the film has been revived with a 4K restoration performed in America.
On her wedding night a beautiful woman, Jeanne (Nagayama Aiko) is raped by a feudal lord. In her grief, she sells her soul to the Devil (Nakadai Tatsuya), but is scorned by the villagers and branded a witch by the very same lord.
