[ Story ]

On the seventh anniversary of her husband's death, the widow Akiko still looks young and beautiful, and three friends, Mamiya, Taguchi and Hirayama, are trying to find a good husband for her daughter, Ayako.
Mamiya realizes that Ayako is hesitant about marrying, because she is thinking of her mother, but with his friends decides that if Akiko remarries, it will be easier for Ayako to marry.
When Mamiya asks Ayako if she will marry Goto, should her mother marry again, she thinks that her mother has already agreed to marry Hirayama and bitterly upbraids her. However, they are reconciled when Ayako learns that her mother was unaware of Mamiya's scheme.
After the wedding of Ayako and Goto, Akiko returns from the ceremony to her apartment, feeling a deep loneliness as she thinks of her daughter Ayako, who had shared the room with her until that very morning.
