[ Story ]
Katsue Takaishi, a nurse at the Tsumura Hospital in Tokyo, is startled when Kozo Tsumura, the eldest son of the hospital's director, proposes marriage. Katsue, a widow, has concealed the fact that she has a daughter, Toshiko, because only unmarried nurses are employed at the hospital.
Because of his parents' opposition, Kozo asks Katsue to elope with him, but on the appointed day, Toshiko falls ill and Katsu misses the train.
Kozo goes alone and Miyako, his friend Hattori's younger sister, becomes interested in him. But when he returns to Tokyo, he learns about Katsue's child and feels betrayed.
Several months later, Katsue is given an opportunity to become a singer. On the day of her debut, nurses from the Tamura Hospital occupy a large section of the balcony. Katsue appears in nurse's uniform and when her song ends there is thunderous applause. Backstage she finds Kozo waiting.
