[ Story ]
Women in Mirror is internationally acclaimed filmmaker Yoshida Yoshishige's return to the director's chair after a 14 year absence. Yoshida's name is strongly linked with the Japanese New Wave, together with Oshima Nagisa.
Kawase Ai (Okada Mariko) has been looking for her daugther, Miwa, who disappeared 24 years ago. One day she runs into a woman in possession of Miwa's maternity passbook. The lady calls herself Ogami Masako (Tanaka Yoshiko), but she's afflicted by amnesia. After 24 years, Ai is not able to judge whether the woman is her daughther or not. Masako recommends conducting a DNA analysis, but Ai rejects her offer and asks her to live together as a family. However, Ai's granddaughter Natsuki, whom Masako left in Ai's care all those years earlier, is not able to hide her confusion at Masako's sudden arrival. Meanwhile, the scenery that Masako saw from the hospital when she was a child comes back to her mind. Ai decides to go to Hiroshima with Masako and Natsuki. In a room of a hospital there, Ai confesses that Miwa's real father was a victim of the atomic bomb and passed away in the very same room.
