[ Story ]
Shinichi is the only son of a famous businessman, Karoku Shindo whose real mother Yurie killed herself in his childhood. He believes that it was his father's love affairs which drove his mother to her death, and he hates him. However, his father regrets his past and wishes to train Shinichi to become a man of fine character. His second wife, Takako understands his intention and tries to reconcile father and son.
Shinichi spends his summer vacation at a bungalow by the lake with his friends Teruo and Hiroko. There, he becomes acquainted with a lovely girl having the same name as his real mother, Yurie. On returning home, he decides to support himself, leaves school and through Yurie gets a job at a tearoom, as an assistant manager and jazz singer.
Shinichi and Yurie fall in love and he finds that she is an adopted daughter of his grandmother who is the mistress of a restaurant, and who gave her the same name as her real daughter, his mother.
Shinichi's friend Teruo and Hiroko are also in love but Hiroko's father, a doctor, is against their marriage, insisting that is unnatural from the medical view-point, because of their ages. Teruo and Hiroko run away from home. When their fathers go in search of them, they find their son and daughter sleeping in a bungalow by a lake and Hiroko's father is forced to agree to their marriage.
A dinner is given to announce their engagement at the restaurant of Shinichi's grandmother to which Shinichi and his parents are invited. Shinichi's father is astonished to see Yurie and faints, as he mistakes her for his dead wife. Shinichi shouts abuse at his father. However, his stepmother Takako intervenes and explains how much his father regrets his past and how he loves him, and Shinichi's anger melts away.
Shinichi and Yurie join the party and the two young couples engagements are blessed by their parents.
