An accidental atomic explosion in the Arctic regions releases Gamera, a one-hundred and eighty feet turtle who thrives on a diet of geothermal plants and atomic research institutes, but also likes oil refineries and volcanoes. He is distracted from his destruction of Tokyo when a volcano on the nearby island of Oshima erupts. Attracted, he approaches, and lands in the scientists' trap. They imprison him inside a space rocket and shoot him to Mars.
