[ Story ]
One day, the body of a man drifts ashore near where women divers are working. They crowd around the corpse and recoil with gasps of horror when they see the repulsive, battered face of the unfortunate individual. But a different fear clutches at Sada's heart. The body is identified as that of a man wanted by the police, and circumstantial evidence points to his death as being suicide. Sada is living peacefully with her sister who is also a diver, and is loved by Goro, the handsome son of the wealthiest man in the village. But a shadow hangs over her past and a secret she dare not reveal is locked in he r heart. Once she had yearned for the bright lights of Tokyo, but the big city had brought her only heartaches. She met the drowned man while serving in a house of ill-fame and to guard her secret had him done away with by a ma n named Yoshizaki. Thus, her Jekyll and Hyde existence begins - warm and sweet to her lover and ruthless and cruel to those who menace her happiness. She decides that Yoshizaki, too, must die to keep his mouth closed. This time, a fisherman named Miyata offers to do it in return for his way with her sister. But sisterly love is reborn in her and Sada pays, for her crimes with her life.
