[ Story ]

This is an amusing comedy-film with bright, humorous and satirical touches, in the telling of a modern weak-hearted young man who fails to commit suicide by drowning and then goes astray into a dreamland.
Here, in turn various exotic and romantic, sensations occur and finally his dreams unexpectedly come true.
One day a girl-student, Akiko Matsuyama visits Nishikigaura, popular with suicides to gather data for her graduation-thesis "The Psychological View of Suicide."
Here, she finds a youth, named Uchiki, who is about to commit suicide by plunging himself into the abyss.
Uchiki is in fact a designer at a dress-making institute but as he is a good-natured man, his position is miserable and insecure.
He is persecuted by his chief Omori, who he finds is engaged to marry Yoko, a woman-journalist, whom he loves, and finally loses his job.
Thus, Uchiki becomes pessimistic and determines to commit suicide. Just after throwing himself over the cliff, he clings to a pine-tree and wanders into the illusional dream world.
Suddenly, an aged-man with white eyebrows and beard appears and teaches him various supernatural arts.
He keeps company with a circle of hermits and wizards in the dreamland where he finds the same bars, cabarets, beautiful girls as in the ordinary world.
Love affairs and lover's quarrels occur. He also meets "Shurei ", a beautiful fairy, only daughter of the head-man of the community and is very surprised, because she resembles the girl-student, Akiko.
