[ Story ]
The tides of war have turned against Japan when Lt. Tanimura flies his Zero fighter to an island in the Solomon to take up his duties as the new commander.
He finds most of the small group of men under him more like tough hoodlums in appearance and behavior than trained naval pilots. One day, Air Cobras swoop down on Shibata when he is in the air alone. He is afraid, but rises to the occasion when the chips are down, and pays for it with his own life.
The Commander and Yagumo take off to revenge Shibata and return victorious, but the few men left in the unit, are helpless before a concentrated attack.
One day, a submarine surfaces offshore. Tanimura sends his men to safety while he and Yagumo take to the air in the two remaining planes to fight for their motherland.
