[ Story ]
Iijima Naoki is the only professional wind surfer in Japan who participated in the World Cup for eight years in a row. The film portrays his life, and his dedicated wife, Hiroko, who supported him throughout. Based on his novel ‘Tears in Heaven (Tengoku de Kimini Aetara)' which Naoki wrote after he was diagnosed as having cancer, as well as on his essay, "Gan ni Ikasarete" .
Iijima Naoki (Osawa Takao), together with his wife Hiroko (Ito Misaki), travels across the globe in order to become a professional wind surfer. Unable to win a race, they lead a hand-to-month existence, but Hiroko continues to encourage him without complaining. Then finally, Naoki wins a World Cup and their dream comes true. Naoki continues to do well and four children are born, but tragedy strikes. He is diagnosed as having cancer. His condition deteriorates and he is told that he has only three months to live. Naoki, however, decides to catch a wave once more and he accomplishes it in fine style. Having watched Naoki's courage to take up the challenge and not to give up till the last moment, the family decides to continue living bravely after his death.
