Twenty-eighth Cinema Kabuki digital theatrical screening of kabuki shot with HD cameras. Classic kabuki repertoire performed with a modern twist by Cocoon Kabuki is turned into film while preserving the immediacy of a playhouse.
Iemon (Nakamura Shido) lives to satisfy his own ephemeral desires, Naosuke (Nakamura Kankuro) is driven to crime by lust, Osode (Nakamura Shichinosuke) experiences a sad fate at the mercy of men, and Oiwa (Nakamura Senjaku) seeks revenge as a hatred-fueled ghost. The town setting of the late-Edo period and the present violently intersect within a chaotic vortex of instinct and greed.
