Biopic about the life of Kitazawa Rakuten, who laid the foundation for the Japanese manga industry. Stars Issey Ogata, known for his role in Silence.
In 1943, the elderly Rakuten (Ogata) was called to the censorship bureau in the Home Ministry. When confronted by the officer, he begins to talk about his memories. He speaks about having been discovered as a caricaturist by Fukuzawa Yukichi, his status as Japan's first working manga artist, and establishing satirical illustrations as a genre. However, before long Japan as a whole becomes embroiled in the turmoil of the Showa era...
