[ Story ]
Murakami Hiroyasu, director of the documentary Nagare, turns his camera on an elderly homeless man who digs for freshwater clams along the Tama River estuary. His life brings into relief numerous issues confronting Japan today, including environmental destruction, the aging population, income gap and abandoned pets.
An elderly man has been living for over a decade in a mud-flat hut with a dozen or so abandoned cats. He earns a meager living from selling freshwater clams, but the clam population has plummeted in recent years due to over harvesting and development for the Olympics. The camera focuses on an elderly man doing his best so survive amidst the transforming environment.
