Science-fiction novelist Komatsu Sakyo's tour de force was adapted to an anime series for the first time by Yuasa Masaaki who received international praise for Mind Game and Night is Short, Walk On Girl. This theatrical re-edit portrays the course of events following a massive earthquake which strikes right after the close of a fictional Tokyo Olympic Games.
A massive earthquake assails the tranquil life of siblings Muto Ayumu (Ueda Reina) and Go (Muranaka Tomo) who live in metropolitan Tokyo. Amid the chaos, they attempt to escape from the city with their parents, but hour by hour the island is sinking, gradually trapping them.
