[ Story ]
With audiences waiting expectantly since Pulse, bright future is director Kurosawa Kiyoshi's most recent film, and one which was selected for the official competition section at the Cannes Film Festival. The entire film was shot in both 35mm and High Definition Video, creating a strong impression through its memorable imagery.
Yuji (Odagiri Joe) and Mamoru (Asano Tadanobu) are colleagues working at a hand-towel factory. One day, the president of the company visits Mamoru's place and puts his hand in the tank of a poisonous red jellyfish, but Mamoru doesn't even try to stop him. After the boss realizes the potential danger he was in, he fires Mamoru. In a fit of anger one night, Yuji runs to the president's house only to find the family has been slaughtered. Mamoru is arrested for the murders and asks Yuji to take care of his jellyfish, but Yuji ends up releasing it. After Mamoru's shocking prison suicide, Yuji visits Mamoru's father, Shin-ichiro (Fuji Tatsuya), and after a rocky start, they end up bonding. They eventually find a river teeming with iridescent jellyfish, heading out to the ocean.
