[ Story ]

Thrown into despair after his terminal cancer diagnosis, a city office bureaucrat fights to turn around his unremarkable life and do something of consequence with his remaining time. This was the first film Kurosawa co-wrote with famed scriptwriters HASHIMOTO Shinobu and OGUNI Hideo, marking the start of a collaborative relationship that would result in numerous masterpieces. The film received a foreign remake in 2022 in the form of Living, directed by Oliver Hermanus and based on a screenplay by novelist Kazuo Ishiguro.
