Director Hamaguchi Ryûsuke, who gained an international reputation with Drive My Car and Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy, planned this project with musician Ishibashi Eiko. The film won the Silver Lion at the 80th Venice International Film Festival.
The film is set in Mizuhiki, Nagano Prefecture. Takumi (Omika Hitoshi) and his daughter, Hana (Nishikawa Ryô), live a simple life surrounded by nature, drawing water and chopping firewood. However, plans to build a glamping site near their home, which could pollute the environment and water sources is proposed. The potential aftermath of the project could deeply affect Takumi and his family's lives.
